ROBERT
JEMISON (RJ or JIM) SELLERS:
Born
20 Sep 1860; died 28 Dec 1923 in the home of Candy Sellers Davis,
granddaughter of William and Mary Sellers.
Married Susan M. Armstrong 20 Sep 1860. Susan was born 20 May 1842 and died 23
Jan 1919. Both are buried at Blue
Creek Cem. In
the 1870 census, they are living on Gurley’s property. In 1880 they are in Township 19 near Blue
Creek Cem. and in 1883 two
quarters of Section 6 Township 20 where Mary Sellers also gets her last land
grant. In the 1880 census, they have
George, age 15 living with them. Jemison
and Susan did not have children of their own so they adopted George Pace who was
born in Cottondale, Al 10 Mar 1865. George’s father died in the civil war weeks before
he was born and the mother died shortly after his birth. It is said that his mother was a Sellers but is
unproven. George was either not
accounted for in the Sellers household in the 1870 or there is a conflict with
the adoption story. In any event, George
took the Sellers name, moved to Florida and became a Methodist
minister. He Married Alice Viola Mountain. George had 11 children (see Family
Tree). His granddaughter, Alice Louise
Flood did most of the early research on the Gurley Sellers family and gave us our
start in filling in many of the missing blanks surrounding Gurley’s
descendents.
